A self-build is a relationship that lasts several years. Knowing who leads your project, and how they think, matters as much as the portfolio.

A career across three countries

Chris Eadie is the founder of ED Design. His career has taken him from Edinburgh to the Scottish Borders, to an award-winning Edinburgh practice and to Boston, before returning to Scotland to found ED Design in Stirling.

Design and technical, together

Chris began studying in Edinburgh in 2005, combining architectural design and structural engineering before completing an honours degree in architectural technology. That grounding in both design and construction runs through how the studio works: the same care goes into a structural junction or an energy calculation as into the feel of a space.

The Scottish Borders

Chris's early career was with one of Scotland's leading house designers and timber frame manufacturers, learning how bespoke homes are actually built, how timber frame performs in Scotland's climate, and which details succeed.

Edinburgh and Boston

He went on to be Senior Architectural Technologist at an award-winning Edinburgh practice, then spent four years as Senior Designer at a practice in Boston, continuing as a consultant to it after returning to Scotland. That international experience still shapes the studio's work, which spans Scotland, England and the USA.
