Planning a home or extension in Glasgow? ED Design is an architectural design studio in Stirling, within easy reach of the city, designing extensions, renovations and new homes in Glasgow and its suburbs.

We work with homeowners who want more space and light from a sandstone villa or family house, and with self-builders and small developers on new homes.

Designing in Glasgow

Sandstone villas and garden suburbs.

Glasgow's red and blond sandstone villas and terraces, and the leafy suburbs around them, are full of homes that could work better for modern family life with a well-designed extension or reconfigured layout.

We design kitchen and living extensions, garden rooms, renovations of existing and listed buildings, and new homes on infill plots.

Planning

Planning in Glasgow.

Planning applications in the city are decided by Glasgow City Council, and in the surrounding suburbs by the neighbouring councils, such as East Dunbartonshire or East Renfrewshire.

Many of Glasgow's finest residential streets are conservation areas, so we consider materials, scale and views from the street from the very first sketch.

Questions

Common questions.

Do I need an architect for my project in Glasgow?

No. Scottish law does not require an ARB-registered architect to prepare planning or Building Warrant applications, and many homes are designed by architectural designers and technologists. ED Design is an architectural design studio, not an ARB-registered architects' practice. We design your home and prepare the planning and Building Warrant drawings, working with structural engineers and other consultants where needed.

Who decides planning applications in Glasgow?

Glasgow City Council, or the neighbouring council for suburbs outside the city.
