Designing in Perthshire

Glens, towns and cottages.

Perthshire stretches from the Carse of Gowrie to the Highland edge, with traditional cottages, farm steadings and stone houses in towns like Blairgowrie, Crieff, Pitlochry and Aberfeldy.

We help clients extend and upgrade older buildings and design new homes on rural plots, always shaped by the landscape and the local building tradition.

Planning

Planning in Perthshire.

Most planning applications are decided by Perth & Kinross Council. Parts of north and west Perthshire lie within the Cairngorms or the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs national parks, where the park authorities have a role in planning.

We check which authority and policies apply to your site before design starts.

Questions

Common questions.

Do I need an architect for my project in Perthshire?

No. Scottish law does not require an ARB-registered architect to prepare planning or Building Warrant applications, and many homes are designed by architectural designers and technologists. ED Design is an architectural design studio, not an ARB-registered architects' practice. We design your home and prepare the planning and Building Warrant drawings, working with structural engineers and other consultants where needed.

Who decides planning applications in Perthshire?

Perth & Kinross Council, with the national park authorities in parts of the area.
